Over 250 lakes and ponds...Winding roads that lead to scenic views...Quaint villages between hills and mountains...It's all found in New Hampshire's Lakes Region!
New Hampshire's Lakes Region is in the central part of the state, with the Dartmouth region to the west, Maine to the east, the Merrimack Valley and Seacoast to the south, and the White Mountain region to the north.
The Lakes Region provides a variety of activities and attractions - a water park, water skiing, boating excursions, fishing, horseback riding, scenic railroad trips, golfing, sightseeing, spectacular mountain vistas, wildlife and nature walks, and, of course, tax-free shopping in the many outlet malls in the vicinity. During the winter there are three very affordable ski areas less than an hour away.
The area also hosts many sporting events held yearly. For the ice-fishing enthusiasts, one of New England's largest fishing derbies is held the first part of February with cash prizes and a grand prize of a boat, motor and trailer. Late May, early June promises the best small-mouth bass fishing you'll ever experience. Mid-June, Laconia hosts the world famous motorcycle week and Loudon Classic with seven full days of events. Winston Cup races are held at nearby New Hampshire International Speedway early, mid and late summer.
I-93 passes through the western end of the region, and U.S. Route 3 is another faster road through the Lakes. It should be noted, however, that the best way to see the area is a slow, leisurely drive on New Hampshire's scenic state highways.
