A comfortable Country Inn located on the side of Crotched Mountain with breathtaking views of New Hampshires the Piscataqoug Valley. 'Located in the Monadnock Tourist Region. Built in 1822 as a farmhouse, the historic Inn at Crotched Mountain once served as a stop on the Underground Railroad, helping slaves escape to Canada. A secret tunnel led from the cellar to the road. During the late 1920's, the homestead became a renowned farm, with prize-winning livestock such as sheep, cattle, horses, and Angora goats. Part of the house was destroyed by fire and was rebuilt in 1935, but much of the original brick building still remains. John and Rose Perry purchased the home in 1976. They have been working ever since to preserve and respect its rich, historical past.
On a 65-acre parcel of land, the inn offers a tranquil setting and a breathtaking view across Piscataquog Valley.
There is expansive grounds to walk and relax which include flower, herb and vegetable gardens, a 30 by 60 swimming pool, two clay tennis courts and five and a half miles of cross country trails. A 18 hole golf course is near-by.
The decor is elegantly rustic, with rich wood tones accented by vivid, jewel-like colors and striking paintings. Fresh flowers grace both public and private rooms. The 13 cozy bedrooms are furnished in lovely antiques befitting a country estate. The house also features nine working fireplaces, four of which are in the guestrooms. Two dining rooms are warmed by original old fireplaces, and the main dining area contains the built-in bookcases and books, including a history of the Inn, from the old house.
In addition to her role as hostess, Rose stars as the chef. Her artistry combines an eye for enticing presentation with creative use of well-matched ingredients. Many of the vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers that she uses are grown on the grounds. The result is a delectable continental fare fused with culinary elements from her native Singapore. Even the most simple breakfast is well prepared and presented.
A mountainside swimming pool, wading pool, and two clay tennis courts are on the grounds, and an 18-hole golf course and hiking trails, doubling as groomed cross-country ski trails in winter, are nearby. The less athletically inclined can find entertainment at several of the area's cultural attractions, including Sharon Art Center, Peterborough Players, Monadnock Music Festival, and American Sage Festival.
If you've never been to the Inn at Crotched Mountain, you've never been treated to true hospitality served up in a family manner. This intimate hospitality offered by the Perrys will make all the difference. Come for a night, and you'll want to stay a week.

The Inn features 13 rooms, 8 with private baths, 2 sitting rooms, a cocktail lounge and two dining rooms. Dinner is served on Friday and Saturday.
